When parents are blessed with twins or with multiple children they obviously get to deal with, at least, twice the work, twice the baby supplies and twice the cost. It’s nice to see that there are, at least, some cost-saving options out there for parents. The Quattro Tour Duo stroller, a tandem stroller from Graco, falls into this category. The Duo stroller is a full-featured stroller that is reasonably priced. Let’s take a look at some of Duo’s finer points:

The Quattro Tour Duo seats accommodate two SnugRide or Infant SafeSeat infant car seats – this means that you can start strolling right away. These infant car seats from Graco can easily be moved from the car to the stroller and visa versa – without disturbing your sleeping children. The infant car seats simply snap and lock into the stroller for a safe and secure ride. Both seats have removable canopies that provide ample, bassinet-like coverage for your children.

A 3- and a 5-point safety harness system comes standard with the Duo’s seats. The safety harnesses can be converted from 5-point to 3-point when your children get older. Research tells us that it’s pretty common for parents to switch to the 3-point harness for their own convenience and for their child’s comfort.

If you have multiple children you’ll know what I’m talking about when I say that you have A LOT of baby gear to transport. I’ve used and reviewed a lot of strollers and I have to say that compared to the Duo, I’ve never seen, or heard of, a stroller with more storage space. In my opinion, the Quattro Tour Duo, hands down, has more storage space than all other strollers.

What’s working well?

Transferring your children from the car to the stroller couldn’t be easier. Not all twin strollers accommodate two infant car seats – so if you are blessed with multiple infants, consider the Quattro Tour Duo for the infant car seat carrying capability.
As I mentioned earlier, you get a lot of storage space with the Quattro Tour Duo. But what I didn’t mention was how easy it is to load and unload gear to and from the storage basket. Graco has an amazing lower and load feature where the rear portion of the storage basket can be lowered for incredible easy access.
The one thing that surprised me about the Duo strollers is its easy-fold capability. I assumed that since the Duo was such a large, heavy-duty stroller that I’d have to give up the easy fold capability that Graco offers with its standard / single strollers. My assumption was incorrect, the Duo stroller easily folds and unfolds with one hand. This feature is fantastic for parents with multiple children who’s hands always seem to be occupied – imagine that.

What’s not working well?

I’m sure that Graco’s SnugRide and Infant SafeSeat car seats / travel systems are fantastic and they work very well. But I’ve been talking with lots of parents who consider lack of choice a detriment. In my opinion, Graco would sell a heck of a lot more strollers if they would support other manufacturers’ infant car seats. Graco’s strollers are only compatible with the Graco SnugRider and the Graco Infant SafeSeat… adding others’ strollers to their compatibility list would give us choice – and this, in turn, would remove purchase decision obstacles
Many parents I spoke with opted to ‘not’ get the Quattro Tour Duo because of the weight. Having a full featured twin stroller that weighs 39 lbs. is not for everyone. You’ll pay a lot more money for a lighter, full featured, twin stroller – so the trade-off is pretty clear… weight versus affordability.

If you want a twin stroller that is packed with features
If you are looking for a stroller that has a ton of storage space below the seats

Why should you ‘not’ buy this stroller?

If you either have or want to purchase non-Graco infant car seats.

If you are looking for a stroller that’s easier to maneuver.

Recommendation

How often have you seen this happen around the holidays? The parents have spent a small fortune on the latest, greatest toy. After a few grins and giggles, the parents take the toy out of its huge box and proceed to put it together. In the meantime, the child finds the box to be quite fascinating. By the time the toy is fully put together, the child is so engrossed in the box that he or she has no desire to play with the expensive toy.

This scenario is replayed in house after house across the country. The lesson is, children are easily entertained and homemade toys can be created from every day materials that can easily keep their attention. Here are some ideas for easy to create homemade toys.

One idea for a homemade toy is a cardboard box car. Take a large cardboard box and cut a hole in the top and cut out the bottom. Decorate it like a car, using paper plates for the wheels and steering wheel. Your child will enjoy “driving” this car around the house!

Create a hand made bubble blower out of a toilet paper roll. Wrap the roll with aluminum foil. Make the bubbles by mixing liquid dish soap with water. Dip one end of the roll in the mixture and blow gently through the other end. You should be able to easily create very large bubbles!

Create a scoop ball game out of a one-quart plastic milk jug. Cut the jug in half and save the handle side. Toss a ball back and forth and use the jug to catch the ball.

Model planes can be made out of the Styrofoam trays that meat is packaged on. Cut out a body, wings and tail shape. Use a knife to cut a slit in the body for the wings and tail. Because the Styrofoam is so light, these planes can soar for a decent distance.

A personalized homemade toy is the homemade puzzle. Have your child create a drawing or other piece of art. Glue the artwork to a piece of cardboard. After it is dry, turn the cardboard over and trace out puzzle piece shapes. Carefully cut out these shapes. Your child will have fun putting together his own artwork. Store the puzzle in a Ziploc bag.

A homemade beanbag toss game is another fun and active toy to create. Take a sturdy piece of cardboard and cut holes in it to make the targets. Be sure the holes are large enough that the beanbag will fit. Then make some beanbags. Take scraps of material and fill them with beans or pasta. Hand sew them shut. Have your child decorate the target and assign points to the holes. Then have fun tossing the beanbags at the target!

Whatever toy you decide to make, be sure to include your child in the process of making the toy. Not only will you create a fun toy, but you will also create life-long memories with your child. Using what would be trash to make a fun toy also helps to protect our environment.

Why do we need car seats for babies?

Baby car seats are a matter of law in the UK since 2007. However, this is not just another “petty” law targeting motorists. Choosing the best car seats for baby. The first thing to remember is that the features you look for will change as your baby grows. For a newborn baby a rear facing seat will be required, progressing to a forward facing seat for toddlers and finally a booster seat for young children.

Rear-facing seats for baby are designed for infants under twelve months, sometimes referred to as “newborn baby car seats“. The seat has to be big enough to support the baby’s head, neck, and spine. If you find that the baby’s head is higher than the top part of the seat, then you need to get a bigger size. There is a choice between 3 and 5 point harnesses, 5 point harnesses offer slightly better protection but are very restrictive.

Forward-facing seats are for when when your baby is 12 months or older (or is too big for rear facing seat). Everyone wants to pamper their little one. It doesn’t matter that the baby won’t know or that your toddler could care less. As a parent, especially the first time around, we want and buy everything for our child. This includes fancy bedroom linens that in hindsight we spent WAY to much money on, an over the top wall mural that the child will grow out of by their 2nd birthday and countless other useless “necessities”. I also realize that what a manufacturer says voids the warranty is not necessarily in the best interest of anyone but themselves. For example, a child car seat.

The manufacturer says that putting ANY item that did not come with the seat voids the warranty. which is a total of 1 year (tell me who gets a new car seat every year just to keep the warranty?). So I want to know, what are all these accessories for children’s car seats doing on the market. Right off the bat I can name head rests, seat warmer covers, shoulder straps, body positioners…the list can go on for miles. So why is it that a car seat cover is so controversial? It works the same as the manufacturers cover, just cuter more fashionable and fun. It interferes no more than any of the above mentioned items yet it gets parents in a tizzy. I think that people need to lighten up. Most of the items made for kids are by moms, who always have the best for children, yours and theirs, in mind.
